About Me

Kelly Kandra Hughes earned her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (Go Tar Heels!). After achieving tenure as an associate professor at a suburban Chicago university and taking a sabbatical, she realized she wanted to make some changes in her life. Those changes brought her to Norfolk, CT. She now works at the Norfolk Library, where she’s the Community Engagement & Online Programs Coordinator. She loves to use her expertise in psychology and behavior change to lead library programs, including Yale University’s 10-Week Science of Well-Being course. Her current professional pursuit is to be a traditionally published children’s author, starting with Middle Grade books, then Young Adult, and perhaps picture books, too. A lofty goal, for sure, but Kelly believes that with the right preparation and dedication to writing, then luck and circumstance will one day go her way.
